Manchester Synagogue Incident: A Casualty Was Likely Shot by Police
During a devastating development, one of the victims lost during the Manchester synagogue attack is believed to have been shot dead by law enforcement personnel.
Official Statement Reveals Gunshot Wound
The senior officer of Greater Manchester Police announced that the Home Office pathologist has initially concluded the victim succumbed to a gunshot wound.
“Overnight, we have taken advice from forensic specialists before detailed autopsies scheduled for this afternoon. The expert has advised that he has provisionally determined a victim would appear to have suffered a injury matching a firearm wound.”
Suspect Details
The assailant, a 35-year-old individual, did not have a gun, and all discharged rounds were by authorized firearms personnel on site.
It is believed the deceased was part of the group positioned at the entrance seeking to prevent the attacker from gaining entry.
Outcome of Intervention
“It follows therefore that subject to further forensic examination, the wound was unfortunately incurred as a tragic and unforeseen consequence of the necessary rapid response taken by our personnel to halt this brutal assault.”
Victims Identified
The two victims killed in the attack at Heaton Park synagogue located in Manchester on Thursday had been named as 53-year-old Adrian Daulby and 66-year-old Melvin Cravitz.
These individuals were killed when a vehicle was employed to crash through the grounds of the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue, then stabbed worshippers in a six-minute rampage that concluded after armed officers shot at him twice, killing him near the synagogue entrance.
Further Harm
Three more people sustained major injuries in the violent act on Yom Kippur, the most sacred occasion in the Jewish year.
Watson said, “We have also been advised that one of the three victims now hospitalized sustained a gunshot wound, which is fortunately non-fatal. It is believed the two individuals were near each other at the entrance, as worshippers acted bravely to prevent the attacker from gaining entry.”
Community Support
“Our thoughts and prayers are directed toward all of the families, and the wider community, touched by these events in the region and elsewhere. Specialist officers are offering aid and assistance for everyone involved, including the courageous emergency teams.”
Attacker Profile
Authorities identified the attacker as the individual, 35, a British citizen of Syrian descent.
Greater Manchester police said that three other people – two male suspects and a woman in her 60s – had been arrested “for alleged commission, preparation and instigation of terrorist activities”.
